Photo Challenge: Day 9 – Routine

Routine? What Routine?

#janphotoaday Day 9 | Daily Routine | Routine? What routine? How am I going to get kids ready for school again?

Oh holidays how I have loved thee…

I am not good at holidays. I am not good when there is no routine. I get all angsty and nasty and cross. I don’t like it when the house gets too messy and I don’t like looking around to see so many things needing doing.

So, most holidays I push myself to be productive. I write long lists of things to do and expect to be able to do them. Then, when the holidays come I gear up for days of cleaning and organising. I get in the right head space and I go for it. But, Mr Cool goes into this ‘Who cares?’ mode and he gives himself goals like:  ’Reading a Novel’, or ‘Running Every Day’, or ‘Getting The Cars Cleaned’.  This equates to tension. Lots of it. And it resonates out of me.

I got the end of the 2011 school year and had nothing in my tank. I didn’t even have the energy to write the lists. I came to a point where I just had to do nothing. Well, nothing productive anyway. I actually rested – which was really weird.

This means that these holidays have actually been really good! I have put no pressure on myself {or my poor husband} to get anything specific done. We have kept the house clean and tidy, but I have not gone into any kind of foaming at the mouth frenzy of holidays gone by. We headed to Sydney for a week of fun and now have a week at home chilling and doing day trips. It has been lovely.

However, all good things must come to an end. Mr Cool is heading back to work at the end of the week and then goes back to work every day next week. Then the kids go back to school the week after that. Which means I have two weeks to start winding up for the school routine again.

I am looking forward to getting into the school year again. I have some projects on the horizon and lots of ideas, I will do some teaching again and get right back into running. But, to do all of this I need to get my game face back on and get things in order.

I am sure gonna miss 5 people reading and drinking tea in our bed in the mornings though…

What things will you miss when school goes back?

  1. I love routine. Nay, I NEED routine! But I’ve also really enjoyed the past week of hanging out with the kids at home; the busyness of Christmas behind us and the busyness of the school year yet to come. It’s a blissful way to segue into a new year :-)

    • I am looking forward to getting some order back into my days. I really need to get up and away from this computer for a while!
