We humans are funny creatures aren’t we? My mum loves saying that. And she is right. We want so much to be independent and to do things on our own and show that we are not c0-dependent and we can make our own decisions and stand up for ourselves etc etc etc. But, really, who are we kidding? We all need friends. We do, and if you think you don’t – you mustn’t have the kinds of friends that I have. Poor you.
I am at a point in my life where I have every kind of friend imaginable… It is a great place to be… These are the kinds of friends in my life…
The ‘Hello, how are you?‘ kind of friend. A quick hello and a chance conversation when you bump into them at the shops is all that is required to maintain this friendship.
The “When we will catch up?” kind of friend. When you have had some great chats and you just want to learn a bit more about that person and see if you have enough in common to pursue the relationship further.
The ‘Do come for dinner‘ friend. You have forged enough of a relationship that you are willing to have those people and their kin in your home.
The “We should do _____ every week” friend. Insert ‘Coffee’, or ‘Walking’, ’Boxercise’ into the space provided. This is when you find time to fit that person into your weekly schedule.
The ‘Run across the room with arms open wide‘ kind of friend. These are the friends you have been close to at some point and have lost touch, but when you see each other again it is like you haven’t missed a beat.
The ‘Let’s plan something together‘ kind of friend. Trips, weekends, dinners, family get togethers, concerts and any other fun thing coming up on the calendar. These are the inner circle friends, the ones who have worked their way up the ranks of friendship.
The ‘I know that this is last minute, but can you *insert ‘mind children’, ‘come over’, ‘cook me dinner’* kinds of friends. These are your keepers. When things get tough – these are the peeps you call at a pinch. Very helpful to keep these ones loved up in return!
The ‘We will be in your neighbourhood today, can we pop over? {And perhaps stay for a gourmet barbecue and delicious desert – or takeaway – which ever is easier…}’ kind of friends. These kinds of friends are awesome in everyway. Clearly comfortable with your company and will drop everything to hang out.
The ‘Are we okay? Let’s start from the start‘ kind of friends. Things were tense. Things are a bit awkward. But the decision was made to work things through. Baby steps.
The ‘Let’s do this *insert grand adventure* every year!’ kind of friend. This shows that you have a very secure friendship that is certain to last another calendar year.
The ‘You are my sister so we have to be friends’ kind of friend. I have lovely sisters, we don’t see each other as much as I would like, but, they are always in my inner circle. They HAVE to be my friends – they don’t get a choice.
I am so blessed to have friends at all points along the friendship scale. I am grateful for each and every friend and for what they each add to my life. Thanks for being there for me peeps!
Did I miss any categories? I bet I did…

So true! I’m sure there are other categories also, but that would require thought process that I don’t have time to think! So glad that I can call you one of my friends! Hugs and kisses!
