I have decided to quit Weight Watchers. Yep… I am cancelling my subscription. I love the program, I really do. It works and I love the community and the website and the meetings and all of that. I have been living this program for the best part of 7 years. But – it just isn’t working for me anymore. I am tired of counting points, and to be honest, I am tired of constantly thinking about food. I need to use those brain cells for other things!
I have felt this for a while and this whole thyroid debarcle has made me realise that I need to a) do something about my weight for me – not just for the sake of losing weight, and b) eliminate the NEED for exercise until I can work this whole thyroidal thing-a-ma-jig out.
I am the kind of girl who needs a plan, I need to sign up to a program, I need to read a book or join a group – I am wired that way. So when a lovely friend lent me the book ‘Sweet Poison’ and I read the first three pages, I was sold. I had found my new program, my new thing.
I have always had trouble processing sugar. As a teenager, friends would stay up all night and eat lollies and drink coke and I just knew that I couldn’t do it, I had to balance out the sugar with some crackers or something. As an adult, I have been much better at managing the sugar in my life, we don’t have lollies in the house very often and we don’t drink sugary drinks. I just can’t cope with it and I would rather my kids not have too much of it either.
After reading this book, I can see how sugar has crept into so many things and has become so normal in our culture. Well, I am going to say no to it for a while and see how I go. I followed the plan really closely for two days and was ever so surprised to see a drop on the scales – two days! I will start properly on Monday, I know this sounds weird, but I need to start after Miss A’s birthday and mother’s day and all that. I need to have a clear run of time where I won’t be in a position where I CAN’T say no to sugar {Miss A was nearly in tears when I told her I am thinking of giving up sugar, she really wanted me to have a piece of her cake!}
So… here begins a new plan. A new way of looking at food. I am excited to be able to eat whole foods and vegetables and fruit and not have to worry about portions or quantities, my body should learn to tell me when I am full… I am optimistic but realistic. If this doesn’t work, I will probably cry my head off for a while and then try something new again. I am just so uncomfortable with this extra weight I am carrying – I have been skinny and it is worth fighting for for me… As my Weight Watchers leader used to say, ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’ – she is right.
If you would like to buy a copy of Sweet Poison… Click on the book below…
Just for some ‘geeky-this-is-new-let’s-check-out-you-tube’ fun… Here is David Gillespie talking about the program…
So… what has everyone else been up to this week? What have we been learning? Link in below… I am opening it up early this time, I am working tomorrow and really want to make sure that it is up and open for tomorrow. I will keep the link open until 9am Saturday. Remember to read some other posts and leave some comment love, you might also like to grab the ‘Team Friday’ button from the side bar.

All the best with this program hun! I’m a chronic sweet-tooth but like you don’t do lollies or sugary drinks. My weakness is the biccie barrel!!! I had to laugh out loud when Linkwithin suggested I might like your posts on Sugar Scrolls, Red Wine in Maastricht and your post about the exhibition at GOMA made completely out of sugar (LinkWithin has me pegged, right?) Sorry I’m not linking up today. Be back next week xxxx

Hi there and hooray for Friday, I’ve just linked up. So many mums at school have been talking about this book, and my sis did too… she has been sugar free for a long time now. I decided a while ago to not have any black and white food thinking, but am sure that less sugar for everyone is a good idea. I am not so bad but my children eat FAR TOO MUCH. I need to read more!

I’m too scared to read Sweet Poison. I might read things I don’t want to know. But I have cut out a fair bit of extra sugar lately. There’s no sugar in wine, right?
Good on you for trying something new. Sometimes, that’s what it takes. Not that there’s anything wrong with the ‘something old’, but the ‘something new’ can be invigorating.
I’m hoping that’s true of my new running shoes that arrived yesterday.
There is not that much sugar in a dry red wine…. Is that what you were drinking????
I am hoping to just shake things up, and I think that this ‘plan’ note not ‘diet’ is far healthier than WW. Sooooo looking forward to not counting points, that is soooooo boring!
I hope the new shoes are great and that you get a chance to run in them really soon.
Thanks for commenting lovely,
B

It’s late, so excuse the silliness of all this, but I can’t for the life of me figure out where to put my link. Oh the shame. So I’m putting it here >> http://www.sugercoatit.com/blackmores-lets-work-out/ – It’s a post about living a life respectful of your body adn there’s two sports packs to win.
Yay for sugar free. I switched to the dark side September last year and haven’t looked back. Ask away if you have questions, my inbox is always opens. And this eBook is all kinds of fab. And cheap too https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?ii=996725&c=ib&aff=187164&cl=110050 pus there’s a cookbook too selling for about $13 at the moment. I’ve got mine ordered ready for the release. Yay!

Thanks for this – think I am going to have to see if I can get this book and have a read. It might be just what I need to either drop a couple of kilos or help me maintain my current weight.
Have a great day !
