I love thinking of new ways to wear items already in my wardrobe. As much as I would love, love, love to shop for new things all the time I realise that this is a) not realistic, b) not good use of money and c) a bit wasteful given my wardrobe is getting crowded. So, I thought I would come up with some posts about items I have in my wardrobe that I could wear in different ways…
Here are this edition’s items:
These are items I figure we all have in our wardrobes. Now, don’t think that I am trying to push a full skirt and a v-neck t-shirt. I want you to work with your body shape – if a fuller skirt doesn’t work for your hips – go for a straighter cut. Use these ideas as a look book and an inspiration to head into the depths of your wardrobe to see what you have and how to make it work.
Wearing a black skirt to work is kind of obvious. It is a staple kind of thing to have in your ‘Mon-Fri Wardrobe’ – but – it needn’t be boring! Team it with great fun accessories, like these striped tights and add some zing with a cherry red briefcase. Teaming the t-shirt with a jacket and scarf dresses up the outfit. If you would feel more comfortable in a shirt with a collar – add that! But please, also add some colour, pretty please?
Your black skirt can also take you to the movies or a party or lunch at a cafe or dinner with your man. Add a cute black shrug, some tights and some cute heals and you are set to go! You can add some lovely beaded accessories and a cute clutch to complete the look.
Weekends don’t have to always be about wearing jeans. Being a stay at home mum {most of the time} I wear my jeans all. the. time! So sometimes on the weekends, I like to pull something out that I haven’t worn through the week. A little black skirt and a denim jacket is a fun way to dress to grab morning tea with the family, catch up with friends for lunch or a stroll through a museum.
Going to a fete, funfair, park for a party? Well, you can wear your little black skirt here too… You will look cool and funky by teaming your skirt with a cardigan, footless tights, cute flats and some groovy accessories. Feminine and classy, you can’t really go wrong.
I hope you have been inspired to look at your little black skirt in a new way. It is a versatile item of any wardrobe and should be used more.
So… are you going to be pulling out your black skirt and zazzing it up this week?
Extra bits…

This is so awesome. I have no style but I’m going shopping for some accessories today to try and combat that. So glad I read your post before I went. Reminder to myself – blank canvas then work your way out.

Aww, what a nice comment to leave! Thanks!
I get stuck thinking I NEED a certain item, but when I look in my cupboards I see I already have things that I could wear. I would rather spend my money on other things rather than doubling up. I am also thinking of the environment and not buying cheap cheap cheap things, rather focussing on quality. My drive lately has been to be happy with less…. Which doesn’t really fit into my love for shopping! I am constantly in turmoil!
Such great looks….all of them! Love the ideas!

NOOOO!! Look in your wardrobe FIRST! I think that we all have things that we could be wearing but we don’t know how to revamp them! Shop at home first and then hit the shops.
Thanks for visiting, love it!
I love these looks. Great post! Rachel x

Great idea! It amazes me what I have in my wardrobe when I IRON! I hate ironing, so the pile never gets smaller. My mum took all my ironing a little while ago and WOW – I had all sorts of nice things to wear!
I think we could all do with shopping in our wardrobes more… There are many ways to wear all different kinds of things.
Oh, I love the weekend and play ensembles! That red scarf is divine ! You’ve inspired me to go out and find a nice black skirt! I love wearing dresses on the weekend. It makes that time a little more special.

It is an Alexander McQueen – as you do… I just loved it! I have wanted to use for ages so today was the day! I don’t know how much. You want for me to find out?
Every time I read a blog post focused on fashion I desperately want to go out and shop. I’m going to check out this polyvore and print off things I like to take shopping with me so I know what to look for! I’m hopeless and nothing in my closet is classic or mix ‘n match! *waaaaah* Sorry. haha

I have a black skirt, that I love and wear almost weekly… but it’s not as pretty as the one in your pics! Love that skirt.

Yes… well… the skirt in these pics is an Alexander McQueen skirt… I wasn’t even game to find out how much it was! But it was too pretty – had to use it!
I live in my jeans all the time too, even to work but it’s me and the boss at his house so kinda doesn’t matter .. Anyway, really need to learn how to accessorise as you have done here, not my ‘look’ but can still take away ideas, thanks

I am not fashion savvy at all! And being in Darwin means I really don’t feel the need to layer or accessorize. Honestly, I just get dressed and go out!
Hmmm… I don’t know if I could do that. I have to add a bit of bling or fling {scarves} to my outfits… Perhaps I am better suited to the south. Thanks for stopping by, MWAH!
Excellent ideas. And my gods, I love that skirt! Will still never wear a white tee though! X
