You have all heard of the aid organisation Compassion, right? Compassion has a heart for children all over the world and they provide aid in all sorts of amazing ways. Check out more information here…
When we had our first baby, we decided that if we could afford to have a child, then we could afford to support a child overseas. We sponsored Regina from Guatamala.
When we had our second baby, we did the same thing and sponsored BaiMon from Thailand.
Last week we sponsored our third Compassion child. A boy. His name is Messi Miracle and he is from Indonesia.
Compassion sent us a fabulous ‘Welcome Pack’ with lots of great information about Messi and about how Compassion is going to help his family and community. Very cool.
Our girls, who are seven and four, are finally at an age where they kind of GET what sponsoring a child is all about. We tell them how blessed and RICH we are compared to children in other countries. We tell them that for a little bit of money each month, we can improve someone else’s life in another country. We help them get to school and we help their family to learn new skills and things. They think that this is pretty cool.
We have decided that we need to be more involved in this process. We have received lots of letters from our sponsor girls over the years, and we have not been very good at sending things back. We have decided that this is something the girls can do, they have been drawing pictures and we have lots of photos ready to send them. It has been a great things to do with the girls: they look up world maps and talk about the weather there and life and what things their sponsor child might like to do. It is pretty cool.
Sometimes I get bogged down in bills and dreams and other things, so First World Darling, but being involved in Compassion helps me get my priorities straight and to remember that, my life is really really great.
I am so thankful that we are able to teach our children about helping others. And I am so thankful that by helping other people I can see just how peachy my life is.
I have put a Compassion ad in my sidebar – go check them out. You could make a HUGE difference to one child. And that is awesome-sauce.

Oh, and just as a post script… My mum had a good chuckle when Miss Z {who is 4} told her that we had ‘BOUGHT’ another baby… ‘Sponsorship’ is not a word that rolls easily off the tongue! Haha!

What a wonderful thing to do. Lol on the buying another baby, children say the cutest things

It has been a great thing for our family to do… The girls are so ripe for all that information right now.
Thanks for popping over!
Love Compassion. Such an awesome organisation and such a great thing for your kids to be involved in. And what a great name is Messi MIracle? My own Compassion baby turns 20 this year! Where did those 17 years go?!
Wow – you had a Compassion child for 17 years!? That is totally cool!
We should always be thankful in everything we do and in every morning we wake up.. This just means we have another day to live and be an inspiration to people..
What a lovely idea. We made a similar decision except we donate monthly to the Cancr Council. X

I think any kind of giving to charity makes us all better people. We should all have a charity we support. Makes the world a much better place. {I also ‘donate’ lots of money to LifeLine and St Vinnies… :0) }
Ps – like your new imagery! X
What a beautiful post. I love this.
