There comes a time when a girl has to just face the facts and realise that lovely high heeled shoes are just not the best option. Whether it be for physiological reasons, {I have sprained my right ankle so badly so many times that heels are just not great for me} or if you know the terrain is going to be bad {garden weddings, days of shopping, long walks to commutes etc} or if your heels just don’t work with your dress. Why not rethink the humble flat shoe?
If you are going to frock up and you want to feel fabulous, here are some ADORABLE flats that can take you anywhere from dinners out, to weddings and to any other fancy dressed up event. You will look elegantly styled, super cute and – you will be able to walk and schmooze as much as you like!
Nothing screams’elegantly styled’ like sandals and a maxi dress. See that middle dress? It is an Yves St Laurent number, I chose these gorgeous sandals to match, the sandals alone are worth around $1500… I know I don’t normally talk brand or price, but I thought this was well worth noting! Sandals can add some zing to a dress, or like the lovely blue Saltwater sandals, can dress it down and give an edgy, relaxed, ‘hipster’ feeling.

I know we are not all wearing heels with our jeans… but aren’t these flat shoes super cute? I love the idea of brogues, but am not sure if I could pull them off. These flat shoes speak volumes of classic styling, comfort and effortlessness. In these times of mid-season weather hiccups, it is worth keeping a pair of flats out {and a cardigan for that matter} for those ‘in betweeny days’ of mild weather.
I am a big fan of the sandal. They can be worn to dress down a frock {see the maxi dresses above} or dress up some shorts. I don’t think there is any kind of sandal that is not IN this season. Wear them with your tailored high wasted shorts, a cute tank and some beads and you are ready to go anywhere from a picnic, to a stroll through the shops to a casual lunch date with your Mr.
Skirts can be anything from retro to flirty to geometric and all of them come to life with a flat shoe. Mary Janes, little lace flats and even some jersey ballet flats with a bow bring a ‘ready for anything’ air and the added benefit of being able to chase a kite or catch that bus. These shoes can take you from work to the weekend, all without aching calves and un-sprained ankles.

I’m a heels girl but in summer do love a sandal with a maxi dress. Rachel x

I am a heels girl too BUT I’ve hung up my heels for a while (thanks to two little boys to chase!) and learning to appreciate a fabulous pair of flats!
Some great picks B. x

Oh yes, chasing boys around in heels is not easy! Flat are defs the way to go.
I only have one boy to chase around and that is EXHAUSTING enough… I can’t imagine 2!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. B

Honey, I ONLY wear flats. I maybe wear a low cork wedge two or three times during summer, but years of netball abuse on my knees means that I am ALWAYS on the hunt for a cute flat.
These are all adorable – I particularly love the navy sandals!
These are Saltwaters… I really want some in yellow. You can get them from mygidget.com.au or ‘Down that little lane’ Shop have SILVER ones!
I loves them so…
Oh, netball. At least you have a good excuse for wearing flats, I have sprained my ankle chasing a kid across some high jump mats – not even sport related!!

I’m a recent convert to ballet flats and I’m so glad I switched my thinking to include these in my wardrobe! It’s so much easier to slip on a pair at the door and chase after little people. I have a bright red pair that are being worn in high rotation at the moment.
Oh, you know how I love red! Very cute!
I can’t imagine having children and wearing heels…. These days I only wear heels when the children are being babysat!!
