Life: Dear Organised Housewife

Dear Organised Housewife {aka Kat},

I just thought I would write to you and tell you about my journey doing your #TOH20daychallenge. To say that it has changed my life may sound dramatic, but it really has!

I signed up to the challenge on a whim, the link came up in my facebook feed and I thought, ‘Sure, why not?’ I knew my house was not as organised as it could have been but I had no idea where to start. I am quite a clean person, but I am not so great with the paperwork, organising or spring cleaning thing.

The challenge came at just the right time for me. I was ready. I was pumped and I was keen to get my house in order. I started with gusto, in fact, I started with so much gusto that I was spending hours and hours cleaning and sorting and spent two entire weeks at home doing massive amounts of sorting out and organising. So much so, that when I got to the third and fourth weeks, I realised that I had done all of those things in the first two weeks!

But, now that my house is organised, I can see what an important thing it is to do. I am now free to do MORE with my time! I can’t believe how much more time I have now that I am not just shuffling things around the house. The time I spend cleaning has been dramatically reduced becuase I am just able to clean, not organise at the same time.

My organising bug is contagious too, Mr Cool used my momentum to clean out the shed and he even culled his wardrobe. It was great! The children’s wardrobes were cleaned out and sorted, we got rid of lots of broken and outdated toys and have started a pile ready for a garage sale. My house, that a few months ago, felt cluttered and over crowded now has space and order. I love it!

I also found that I will save money by keeping my house organised. Yes, I will save money simply by organising my house! Take my laundry cupboard for example, I had three tubs of Gumption hiding in there – three! Because the cupboard became a dark pit of despair, when I thought I  had run out cleaners and just bought more, then shoved things in the front of the shelf. Not cool.

Everyday I make sure that the house is tidy in the afternoons, the children and the husband help with this too. I no longer dread cleaning day, I know that with a few gung-ho hours, the house can be spick and span in a few hours {before the challenge I would clean the house over two days}. I love that I am now back to inviting people over and entertaining again, I love that my house still feels like a home and it still has touches of us throughout, but it is organised, efficient and clean.

I just wanted to thank you for making such a great resource FREE and available for others. I love that about bloggers, their ability to share and encourage.

Much love,

B

  2. Love the letter B! I didn’t do the challenge myself, simply because I’m a bit of a crazy “spring clean once a week” kinda gal and any extra organisation might have me sent to a padded cell wearing a straight jacket. But I’m loving reading about everyone’s journey with Kat’s challenge. x

  3. That’s so great that you did it and its working for you. I couldn’t confront the challenge at the time, but I am making real efforts to get on top of and maintain our home. For me this means discipline about putting things away as I go and going ape shit on the de-cluttering. Hope I can be as successful as you!
